St. Petersburg Stitch Beaded necklace |
St. Petersburg Stitch is
yet another one of those beading stitches that is easy to learn. You can use
this stitch with different bead shapes and sizes to make your own stunning
handmade jewelry. This leaf is usually done in two halves, and then attached.
However, you can simply do the two halves with the same length of wire and this
will help reduce the amount of wire used. Below is the regular procedure for
the beautiful beaded St. Petersburg Stitch Beaded Leaf.
1. 11/o seed beads (SB)
2. 6mm crystal rondelle beads (CR)
3. Two beading needles
4. 0.30mm monofilament thread
Procedure
1. Cut about 2, 27inches of the thread and
thread them onto a needle each. Add a stop bead to their ends.
2. Keep one aside and with
the other one, pick up six SB and slide down the thread
3. Pass needle through SBs 3 and 4 from down to up i.e.
the two middle beads.
4. Pick another 1 SB and pass through the 4 SBs on the left from the
top downwards.
5. Now, pick 1 CR and pass through the separate 2 seed bead at
the right hand side from the down to the top. Pull tight.
6. Pick another 4 SBs
(will make 6 seed beads total when added to the two).
7. Pass back through the first two SB just picked up in step
6 from down to up (just like in step 3)
8. Pick another 1 SB and pass through the 4 SBs on the left from the top downwards like in step 4.
9. Pick 1 CR and pass through the separate 2 sand beads at
the right hand side from the down to the top. Pull tight.
10. Repeat steps 6 to 8 till you have used a total of five
CRs.
11. Now finally, Pick another 4 SBs and Pass back through
the first two SB picked up.
12. Pick up one SB and pass through the four SBs
11. Repeat steps 2 to 12 with the second needle.
To join,
There are actually several ways to join, one way is as
follows:
1. Pick up one wide SB (or two very medium ones) and cross
both needles through the SB(s).
2. Pick two SBs with each needle and pass the needle up
through the two separate beads.
3. Now pick up four beads with both needles.
4. Then pick up one SB with one needle and pass the needle
back through the previous eight SBs, skipping the newly added SB
5. Pass the second needle through the same single SB added above and
likewise pass the needle back through the previous eight SBs, skipping the
newly added SB.
6. Pass your needles down through the five CR pass each
needle back up through the opposite CRs.
7. Go back down and form the base as follows:
Different ways of forming the base:
1. Cut about 2, 27inches of the thread and
thread them onto a needle each. Add a stop bead to their ends.
2. Keep one aside and with
the other one, pick up six SB and slide down the thread
