Flat Spiral Beaded Necklace Tutorial

Flat spiral beading technique
Flat spiral beading technique

The flat spiral beaded necklace is done using the flat spiral beadweaving stitch. This stitch is a great technique for making elegant beaded necklaces, bracelets and earrings. It is the idea technique for beginner beaders and those that are not very patient with more intricate beadweaving stitches. The flat spiral stitch is very easy to learn and works up quickly.

Materials needed

1. Size 8 Crystal Rondelle beads(CB) ( You can also use pearls or any other round beads)
2. 10/o seedbead / sandbead(SB)
3. 4mm Bicone beads (BB)
4. 0.30mm monofilament (Fishing Line)
5. Needle
6. Jumprings and clasps

Procedure
Step1. Cut a length of thread that you can
comfortably work with. It should be
the maximum length that you can work with.
Thread one end unto a needle and add a stop bead at the other end of the thread

Step 2. Pick up 2 Crystal Bead(CB) +4 Sead Bead(SB) + 1 Bicone Bead(BB) + another 4 SB
Step 3: Pass needle back up through the 1st and 2nd added CB to form a loop.

Step 4:  Pick up 4 SB + 1 BB + 4 SB. Again, pass the needle back up through the 1st and 2nd added CB to form  the second wing. Like this:

Step 5. Add 1 CB and slide it down. Pick up 4 SB + 1 BB + 4SB Pass the needle up the 2nd CB and the newly added CB( now 3rd CB) to create a new wing.

Tip: Ensure the needle goes into the CB from the upper side(like above) throughout the project. This way, each new wing will rest nicely on the previous wing.

Never enter the CBs like this. Don't flip your work over! and consistently enter the CBs from the same side.

Step 6. Again, pick up another 4 SB + 1 BB +4 SB. Pass the needle up the 2nd CB and the 3rd CB

Step 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 till your desired length, passing your needle through the last 2 CB. I.e 2nd and 3rd, then 3rd and 4th then 4th and 5th ... and so on

To add the Clasp:
Step 8. Pick up 8 SBs. Pass the needle through the 1st seed bead added to form a loop.Pass the needle down through 3 CB

Step 9. Now, pass the needle back up through 4 SBs + BB. Then 2 more SBs and go to the next BB.Pass through the remaining 4 SBs, and through the newly created loop.

Step 10. Repeat for the other side of this end and finish off the other end likewise.
 Add your jumprings and clasps.
