The new Abuja connection beaded necklace technique

New abuja connection necklace

The Abuja connection beaded necklace has two varieties, one known as the old Abuja connection beaded necklace and the other, the new Abuja connection beaded necklace. I made a post about the old abuja connection beaded necklace here

This design is very elegant and quite easy to make. The first layer is made using the double needle right angle technique. I have only made three layers because I personally don't like my necklace to be too big. However, you can make it up to as many layers as you want :)

I used a total of 117, 8mm rondelle crystal beads and my necklace measures 18.5 inches without the clasp.

So let's' get started:)

Materials

1. 8mm champaigne coloured rondelle crystal beads ( CR)
2. 11/o burnt orange seed beads(SB)
3. Jump rings
4. Clasp of your choice
5. 0.3mm monofilament thread

Procedure

1. Cut a comfortable length of 0.3mm monofilament and thread a needle unto both ends of the thread.

2. Pick 5 SB + 1 CR + 5SB
3. Pick another CR and cross the other needle through it.

4. Pick 5 SB on each needle and cross both needles through a CR

5. Repeat step 4 till you get to your desired length.

6. To start the second layer, turn you work and pick 1CR + 6SB + 1CR with your right needle.

7. Pass your needle through the second CR like this;

 8. Now pick just 6 SB with the left needle and pass the needle through the second CR added in step 6.

9. Pick 6SB +1CR with the right needle and pass it through the 3rd CR of the first layer

10. Pick 6 SB with the left needle and pass through the newly added CR.

11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 till you get to the other end. Pass both threads through some beads, tie off and cut the threads.

12. To make the third layer, cut a new length of monofilament and pass it through the first CR of the second layer, i.e start the third layer from the same end that you started the second layer and not where you ended it. This is very important.

13. pick 1CR + 7SB + 1CR with your right needle and pass your needle through the second CR of the second layer.

You should have something like this:

14. pick just 7 SB with the left needle and pass the needle through the second CR added in step 13.

15.  Pick 7SB +1CR with the right needle and pass it through the 3rd CR of the second layer.

-+

16. Pick 7 SB with the left needle and pass through the newly added CR.

17. Repeat steps 15 and 16 till you get to the end.

To add more layers,
  • Cut a new length of monofilament for each layer.
  •  keep increasing the number of seed beads for each layer.
  • Always start a new layer from the same end where you started the second layer
18. To add your clasp, pass your needle through all the 3 CR. Add about 17 SB and pass your needles though the SBs and through the 3 CR again.

Add your jumprings and clasp.

  7. Try looking for lockets, and birthstones. Like get the lockets and the birthstones separately and glue the birthstone on the locket.
