Bugle Beads Spiral Necklace Tutorial

I called this bugle beads spiral necklace even though it can be made into either a necklace or a bracelet. It is somewhat similar to the Russian spiral and the African helix stitch. It is one of those procedures that I learned from nairaland forum. So get your materials and have fun beading:)

Materials

1. 6mm Bugle beads (pipe beads)
2. 11/o Seed beads (sand beads size 2)
3. Beading needle
4. 0.3mm monofilament thread (fishing line). I have used regular black thread for this tutorial to increase contrast.

Procedure

1. Cut a very long length of thread that you can comfortably work with and thread one end unto a needle.
2. Pick up an unrelated bead and tie your thread around it leaving about 7 inches tail.

3.Pick up 1 seed bead + 1 bugle bead +1 seed bead + 1 bugle bead + 1 seed bead + 1 bugle bead.( total of 6 bead) and slide them down the thread.

4. Pass your needle through the first added seed bead from down upwards. Pull your thread to for a triangular shape.

5. Pick up one seed bead + 1 bugle bead and pass your needle through the next seed bead( 2nd seed bead picked in step 3).

6. Repeat step five until you get to your desired length.

 N>B: The only challenge with this design is that it may get all tangled if you are not very careful. To help prevent that, one can insert a pen in the centre and keep beading as usual like this:

7. to add the clasp, pick up 7seed beads and pass back through the fifth bead skipping the sixth bead.

8. Pick another 5 seed beads and pass through the next seed bead. 

9. Now pass your needle through the next bugle bead and seed bead, then pick another 5 seed beads and pass the the fifth and sixth bead added in 7.

10 Reinforce your work and repeat steps 7 to 9 on the other side with the tail left in step 2.
